Tari ratoeh jaroe dikreasikan pada 2008 atas dasar semangat kebangkitan rakyat aceh pasca tsunami 2004.
Tari ratoh jaroe berasal dari mana. Namun bagi mereka yang mengenalnya mungkin tau bahwa tarian ini adalah kembaran yang tidak identik dari tari saman. Disebut sebagai tari kreasi karena di dalam gerakan tari ratoh jaroe terdapat gabungan dari gerakan gerakan yang berasal dari tarian. Ratoh jaroe berasal dari kata ratoh berzikir dan jaro tangan.

Biasanya tari itu ditampilkan dalam acara penyambutan tamu penting di aceh dan juga sebagai hiburan. Banyak orang yang menyebut tarian ratoh jaroe sebagai tari saman. Beda dari kedua tari ini disebabkan tari saman aslinya berasal dari daerah gayo suku ini mempunyai tradisi adat bahasa yang berbeda dengan suku aceh.
