Sebelumnya bupati sumedang dony ahmad munir mengatakan tujuan dilaksanakannya tari umbul kolosal yang diikuti 5555 penari dari 270 desa se sumedang ini untuk melestarikan seni tari tradisi.
Tari ini bagi saya mengasikandinamisgerakannya mudah di ikutibegitu pertamakali saya diajak mencoba menari umbul di padepokan masyarakat sumedang larang. Kesenian ini mulai ada di parugpug sekitar tahun 1940 an muncul dari wilayah indramayu ke sumedang. Tari umbul adalah salah satu tari tradisional yang berasal dari desa situraja kabupaten sumedang jawa barat.
Seni tari umbul dari kabupaten sumedang. Dalam pagelarannya para penari akan membawakan lagu yang berjudul umbul atau adem ayem sambil menari secara bergantian. Selain di kecamatan paseh tari umbul juga tumbuh di kecamatan situraja kabupaten sumedang.
Ciri khas tari umbul yaitu gerakan pinggulnya yang erotis hal tersebut mendapatkan pro dan kontra dari masyarakat karena dianggap terlalu vulgar sehingga timbul permasalahan yang tidak diinginkan oleh karena itu pada tahun 1994 tari umbul mengalami.
